Three-time Sierra Leone premier league champions Kono Diamond Stars have on Friday, March 4th, 2022, filed an appealed letter against the decision of the Sierra Leone football association Appeals committee. It could be recalled that on February 20th, 2022, the appeals committee of the SLFA communicated that due to protests they received from FC. Kallon for a match with Diamond Stars that took place on 14 February 2022, which ended by 2 goals 1 in favor of Diamond Stars two players were used in the said match that are ineligible. The premier league appeals committee in their decision deducted three points and three goals from diamond Stars, and awarded three points and three goals to FC. Kallon. The committee went further and fined Diamond Stars two million, five hundred thousand Leone (Le 2,500,000) for fielding ineligible players.
In their appeal to the SLFA Appeals committee, Diamond Stars outline six points in their two-page documents. The Eastern region football team said Abubakar Barrie was released to Mount Auroel SLIFA for the 2021 season. The release further note that on December 15th, 2021, Standard FC withdrew the loan of the said player with immediate effect stating that certain terms and condition was not adhered to by SLIFA. The appeal documented by Diamond stars disclosed that a fundamental breach was done by Mount Aureol SLIFA by failing to pay the said player’s salaries for his stay with them
In a phone conversation with this medium, the secretary to the premier league board Abu Manley confirmed that they have received the appeal of Diamond Stars and they are going to give it the attention it deserves.
In the second paragraph of their appeal, Diamond Stars revealed that Abdul Sesay who was also on loan to Mount Aureol SLIFA on April 19th, 2021 on the conditions that payment of loan fee of three million Leones must be done by SLIFA was not fulfilled.
Diamond Stars in their appeal argue that the Sierra Leone Premier League secretariat should not have encouraged or accepted FC. Kallon’s protest based on their failure to adhere to the provision of art. 25 (i.a) as referred; this gap in the procedure to file a protest as stated in the article, invalidate any appeal raised by FC. Kallon on the fixture.
Diamond Stars requested that the Appeals committee of SLFA rescind the ruling of the emergency committee on the matter on February 20th, 2020, and re-instate their result.
The premier league Appeals committee’s decision to deduct points and goals from Diamond Stars have sent the club to 17 positions with 16 points out of 20 matches played.
